Stretched Watercolor Paper

I have never taken the time to experiment but this winter I hope to do more of that. Right now I am working on this little piece. It is 8" x 8" and I stretched wet watercolor paper over stretcher bars and stapled it to the back and I am painting the sides. Hopefully when I am done I can get better pictures to show you that part. When I am done I shall varnish it and it will not require glass. If all goes well I might even finish it tomorrow...but don't hold your breath! Ha!  I see it is coming up a little dark but the sun is going down here and so it is not the best. It also is not square but I will do better the next time!

I know I said I would try to finish today but believe it or not..up here in northern Minnesota it is 40 degrees, sunshine and no wind and so I just cannot stay inside! Ice skating on the lake and just enjoying this last hurrah! I will get to it...never fear!

Hi Jane,
I've tried a method of painting on clayboard and spraying it, but that is a hard, complicated way of getting a watercolor to show without glass.

Your method seems to be simple and easy to do. I'll try that this winter.
